RecipeBank — Privacy Policy

RecipeBank ("we", "us") helps you capture, organize, and search your recipes. This policy covers the whole RecipeBank service: the web app at recipebank.food, the RecipeBank mobile apps (iOS and Android), and the RecipeBank browser extension.

What we collect

• Account information. When you create a RecipeBank account we store your email address and authentication credentials (handled by our authentication provider, Supabase). Sign-in is passwordless — via a one-time code emailed to you — or via Google. If you sign in with Google, we receive the basic profile information you authorize, typically your name and email address.
• Your recipes. The recipes you capture or create — titles, ingredients, instructions, tags, notes, source URLs, and associated images — are stored in your account so they sync across your devices and the web. They belong to you and are visible only to your account.
• Recipe capture. You add recipes by pasting a URL or recipe text, or by using the RecipeBank browser extension. The extension reads the current page's content (title, ingredients, instructions, image) and its URL only when you click the RecipeBank button — it does not read pages in the background and does not monitor your browsing. When you save a recipe by URL, our service fetches that page's publicly available content in order to extract the recipe.
• Automated parsing. To turn a captured page or pasted text into a structured recipe, we send the recipe text to our parsing provider, Anthropic (the Claude AI service), which processes it on our behalf and returns the structured result. We send only the recipe content needed for parsing, and it is not used for advertising.

How we use it

• To provide the service: capture, store, structure, tag, search, and sync your recipes.
• To authenticate you and keep you signed in.
• To send account-related email (for example, sign-in codes).

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your content or activity for advertising or for any purpose unrelated to running RecipeBank.

Sharing and service providers

Your data is stored and processed by service providers acting on our behalf: Supabase (database, authentication, and backend hosting) and Anthropic (recipe parsing, as described above). We do not share your personal information with any other third parties except as required to operate the service or comply with the law.

Data stored on your device

The mobile apps and browser extension store your sign-in token and your preferences on your device so you don't have to re-authenticate each time. Signing out, or clearing the app's or extension's data, removes them from your device.

What we do NOT do

• No tracking of your browsing history or activity.
• No selling or sharing of your data with advertisers.
• No access to any web page except the one you explicitly choose to save from.
• No advertising, analytics profiling, or fingerprinting.

Data retention and deletion

Your recipes remain in your account until you delete them or delete your account. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at recipebank.food/delete-account (or by contacting us at the address below); we will delete it within 30 days.

Security

We use industry-standard measures (encrypted connections, authenticated access) to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information.

Children

RecipeBank is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
